For many kaigai idols, anime was their first introduction to world of idols and J-pop music in general. If it wasn't Love Live, it was probably Macross, PreCure, Ensemble Stars, iDOLiSH7, Starmyu, Aikatsu, or many many more!

For other kaigai idols, their inspirations were actually other existing idols and cosplay performers. Many recollect their experience of seeing people perform on-stage and thinking, "Hey, I could do that too!"
Not all idols are the same! They could've been inspired by any mix of these three (or even all!)
